Enamelled wire, is also called as Magnet Wire or Winding Wire. A common enamelled wire usually classified and defined by:
Base Metal (conductor):The base metal is the material used as the conductor, it is the base of a wire and determine basic features of a wire. It may be copper, or alloy, like CuAg, CuSn, CuNi, CuZn etc.
Size:The diameter of base metal is used to describe the size of a wire. NEMA defined size by AWG No.
Type of insulation:This is the type of enamel used as insulation, including PU,PE, PEI, PAI, PI.
Type of over coat enamel:This is the outer layer insulation, if any, it may be PAI,Nylon, Self Bonding enamel.
Insulation thickness:It is the increase in diameter of a wire due to enamel application. It is defined individually in NEMA MW1000, JIS C 3202, IEC 60317, and customers often have special requirements.
Thermal class:This is to indicate the level of thermal performance, subject to temperature index, cut-through and heat shock, which is defined in NEMA MW1000, JIS C 3202, IEC 60317.
Color:A wire can be put on different colors for the needs of processes, it can be nature, red, green, blue or brown.
Lubrication:To ensure good layout and smooth payoff, lubricant amount must be controlled according to customer’s requirements with very small tolerance avoids problems during potting and taping, while ensuring excellent windability with no wire breaks. The type of lubricant must be suitable for specified application. Some applications requireintrinsic lubrication.
Litz Wire:Litz wire, also called twist wire, stranded wire, wire rope, means many single wire was twisted together, with different structure and often equipped with fiber cover. Litz wire can reduce “Skin Effect” and widely used for high frequency applications.
Description of a Litz wire often include: No of strands, Pitch (No of turns), direction of turn, structure, Cross Section area, Type of cover and specifications of single strand.
Rectangular Wire:Compare with round wire, the wire base metal is profiled to Rectangular, besides the general description of enameled wire, the size mentioned as width and thickness.
Dimension and Engineering Data:The detailed dimension and engineering data and tolerance subject to IEC 60317, NEMA MW 1000 and JIS C 3202. In fact, each customer has their own know-how, process technology and working environment, most of them has their particular specifications in dimension and engineering data, which is different from above standard. What we will do is to know and to meet customer’s requirements.
